Are you longing to get back in the saddle? Do you want to ride together with other students? Don't know when you have time off, but want to be able to ride a little now and then?

Then LARS riding group is perfect for you!

What is LARS riding group?

Fridays at 15:00 we have a riding group at Lund Civila Ryttarförening (LCR) that only LARS members are allowed to ride in. The riding group has a discounted price (342 SEK) compared to regular riding groups and there is a maximum of 8 people who can ride in one lesson. To ride in the riding group, membership in LCR, LARS and AF is required.

The riding lessons are available at two different levels, basic and advanced, and we have dressage, jumping, groundwork and sometimes trail rides. So you can choose freely what you want to be a part of! The basic requirement for our riding lessons is that you must be able to handle the horse in all three gaits in a safe way in a group, so we do not have any lessons for beginners - then we ask you to contact LCR directly.

Register to get an email each week with information about the upcoming lesson, lesson schedule and the sign-up form.

"I want to ride, how do I go about it?"

Once you have registered for the riding group emails, you will receive an email from us every Sunday where you will find the registration for Friday's riding lesson (our emails may end up in the spam folder so keep an eye out there as well!). Registration opens Mondays at 19:00 and it is first come, first served. Registration is binding. If you managed to secure a spot in the lesson, you will receive a confirmation email from us, where you will also receive information about who is this week's stable host who you can contact if you have questions or if you are late.

You sign up for the riding lessons weekly, so you can choose which lessons you want to sign up for. Perfect for us students who have a flexible schedule!

It is finally Friday, what happends?

The riding lesson starts at 15.00, and we gather inside the entrance at LCR 14.15. There you will be greeted by the stable host who is available for questions and concerns. If there is ground work / jumping on the schedule, we build the course together. Around 14:30 we go out to the stable to get the horses ready before the lesson starts. Around 14:55 we then head out together to the riding hall / paddock to mount.

After the riding lesson, we go back to the stables together and take care of the horses. We have recurring Friday fika after some lessons which is much appreciated, don't forget to write it down in your calendar - whether you have ridden or not!

How do I pay?

The riding lessons are invoiced afterwards via Hippocrates Academy that LCR uses. You must therefore create a Hippocrates account before the lesson. Follow the link here for more information. We in LARS get a 20% student discount on the regular 8-group lesson price and pay 342 SEK. Read more about the discount at the bottom of the page.

What are the knowledge requirements?

The minimum requirement for participating in LARS riding lessons at the basic level is to be able to handle the horse in all three gaits in a safe way in a group. The riding group's basic level corresponds to the Swedish Equestrian Federation's Ryttarmärke 3. Movements that are practiced are e.g. flexing and bending, turn on the forehand, lateral aids, and jumping in canter.

To participate in our advanced lessons, you must have ridden a lesson at the basic level and received approval from our riding instructor to also participate in the advanced lessons. Corresponds to Ryttarmärke 5 and up. Movements that are trained are e.g. counter canter, simple changes, turn on the haunches, shoulder in as well as course jumping. The levels and exercises can be adapted according to who is riding in the group.

In general, the lessons are at basic and advanced level every other week - check the schedule in the riding group email before you sign up.

Read more about the Swedish Equestrian Federation's Ryttarmärken here.

The riding group is not for beginners.

Equipment

To ride a lesson, you need certain equipment:

  • Helmet
  • Clothing suitable for riding, no hoodie
  • Shoes with heels and short chaps, or riding boots
  • It is allowed to ride with a whip, but no spurs on the riding school's horses unless otherwise notified by the riding instructor

If you do not have your own helmet / safety vest, it is available to borrow at LCR.

    Rules and procedures

It is important to follow the rules and procedures that exist at LCR in order for us to handle horses and ride as safely as possible. Before the first riding session, it is important that you read through the Rules and Routines that you can find here, read the rules regularly as something may have changed.

You can also read LCR's safety and riding hall rules here.

"I would like to know more before signing up"

If you are unsure if the lessons are something for you, or just curious about what it is like before you sign up - then you are always welcome to visit before! At the beginning of each semester, we always organize a tour on Fridays for new and old members, where we show you around the facility. After that, you have the opportunity to take a look at our ongoing lesson, and it all ends with fika. Perfect if you have questions, want to meet other new student riders or just want to feel how it feels. Keep an eye on our social media for the next opportunity!

Could not attend the tour? Get in touch with us and you can follow along on a regular Friday lesson, and the stable host will be on site and show you around. Don't forget, Fridays 14-16 during the semester there are always LARSers in the stable so come and visit even if you are not riding!

We also have a trial lesson at the beginning of the semester, where you have the opportunity to ride in our riding group without signing up for a membership with LCR. The lesson is at the basic level (i.e. no beginner's lesson) and is perfect if you are unsure and only want to try riding a LARS riding lesson. The date for the lesson can be found in the lesson plan, and we will announce it on social media.

    Riding group discount

We LARSers have a 20% student discount on the regular 8-group lesson price and this is thanks to an agreement we have entered into with LCR. In exchange for this discount, we volunteer during LCR's competitions. If you ride in the riding group, we strongly encourage you to participate in a volunteer session during the semester, this so that we can continue to offer discounted lessons.

LCR arranges several major competitions a year, often over a weekend, and we are always a bunch of LARSers on site. It is an incredibly exciting environment to be in and the perfect opportunity to make more LARS friends. You have the opportunity to choose what position you want to cover, as well as what times you can be there - some posts that are available are for example the arena, cafeteria, warm up, and the judge's tower. In exchange, you will receive coffee and/or lunch. And it doesn't matter if you have horse or competition experience from before, we all help each other. Keep an eye on our social media when the next volunteer opportunity is and we will coordinate a group!
